100RED I was very surprised when I saw this famous russian helicopter in this american military museum. This Mil-24 arrived by vehicles from Air Power Museum near Austin, Texas and assembled for display in new museum in the Illinois. Date of coming to the Russel Military Museum - November 19th, 2007

The Sikorsky H-34 Choctaw was a military helicopter originally designed for the U.S.Navy for service in the anti-submarine warfare role. Roles included utility transport, anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue, and VIP transport. In it stanstretcher cases if utilized in the MedEvac role.

990 The AH-1 Cobra is an awe inspiring helicopter and one that strikes fear into the hearts of the enemy. Used in vietnam for close air support the cobra was proved to be an exceptional helicopter. With a top speed of 141MpH it was the fastest helicopter of it`s time and the most dangerous with it`s 20mm cannon and wing mounted rocket pods, empty it weights in at a pettite 6,500LB. It`s take off weight is nearly twice that allowing it to carry more weapons the any other helicopter at the time. The Cobra is now being phased out for the new generation of attack helicopters like the apache.

The Huey was used as a troop transport to drop soldiers off, it was used as a medivac to airlift the wounded to fields hospitals, it was used to rescue downed pilots, and was equipped with rocket-packs and mini-guns and by used as a gun ship for close infantry support missions. The Huey is still in service in most major air forces in the world.
