ZL4666 Incredible to think the first flight of the Chinook took place on 21 Sept 1961 and it is still going strong. Flying past on the 89th Air Force Day at Hindon AFS, this Chinook of 126 HF “Featherweights” easily carries an underslung M777A2 155mm Ultra-Light Howitzer (ULH) of the Indian Army that weighs 4200 kg and can fire the M982 Excalibur PGM artillery shell. Inducted on 25 March 2019 at Chandigarh, this heavy-lift, multi-mission helicopter has already proved its worth in India’s Himalayan regions. (mehr von ZL4666)

E1043 Centrepiece of the static lineup on Air Force Day 2021, this Gnat commemorates the Golden Anniversary of the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Fittingly, the aircraft carries the Regn. E257 as a tribute to Fg Off Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon of No. 18 Sqn, the only airman to be posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for valor. Sekhon was on ORP at Srinagar on 14 Dec. 1971 when the airfield was attacked by six PAF Sabres. He scrambled as bombs were falling and engaged them despite the odds, before falling to the escort. JS157 On static display on the 89th Air Force Day at Hindon AFS. Safe to say that the “Jag” is still a favorite sight for many, and the IAF is now the only operator in the world. Inducted in July 1979, the “Shamsher” initially equipped No. 14 Sqn. “Bulls” as a Deep Penetration Strike Aircraft (DPSA). It was used during IPKF ops in 1987 and Kargil in 1999. This DARIN III variant has been considerably upgraded with an Open System Architecture Mission Computer, EFIS, smart MFDs, radar, RWRs and other avionics. (mehr von JS157)
