N64339 TWA stripped white paint from this airplane during a brief test to see if it made economic sense to shed the weight of the paint while mainting a silver finish. The results were negative. On June 14, 1985, N64339 was hijacked with 145 passengers and 8 crew members on a scheduled flight from Athens to Rome and diverted to Beirut. For 17 days the kidnappers wandered between Beirut, Damascus and Algiers with their hostages, who were gradually released. On June 30, 1985 the remaining 36 passengers and 3 crew members were released in Damascus (more of N64339)
